Dear Student,
The
summer reading project for new second graders will be a fun one! Use your summer reading list to help you find
an interesting, just right book. Choose
a character you like from the story. As
you read, have someone help you write down all the places your character
visits. For example your character may start at their home, go to school and
then to a friend’s house. When you are finished, draw and color a simple map
showing where your character traveled.
Make up miles between each location and write them on the map. Write a math problem and figure out how many
miles your character traveled throughout the book.
On
lined paper, write a paragraph about the character’s adventures to help explain
the map. Glue the writing on the back of the map and be ready to share with
your new classmates. Make sure you
include the title and author of the book and your name.
Happy
reading and happy travels!!
